Harry Josiah Searl

Hi All

Im looking for info on my Great Grandfather Harry Josiah Searl.  Born 17/05/1900 married Ada Lavinia Smith in 1926.  She was born 1901.

I have been working alot on scottish and Irish ancestors so finding Birth certs and marriage/death etc certs has been somewhat similar in both countries but in England, im struggling to find any links to show the info i need.  For example, a Scottish or Irish Birthj certificate gives me maiden name of mother plus mother and father names so i can vernture deeper back.  But the ones on Genes Reunited only give me a yr date, the persons name plus some page number sand volumes??  Where can i dig for English files please?

You need to actually purchase the certificates to see all the info on them.

FreeBMD is a good place to start,

or for births and deaths -

https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp (need to register, but is free) - this gives you the mothers maiden names for births!

When you have found the record in the index , if you require the actual cert, then a PDF, or a hard copy, of the cert can be ordered from the latter of those sites.

Marriage Oct/Nov/Dec 1890 Easthampstead Charles Searl and Charlotte Elizabeth Parker.  Not Richardson.  Either she was a widow or I am looking at wrong family.

I think she must have been a widow, as the other children from this family come up as mmn Richardson too.

I'm not entirely sure what all that above means? His name was Harry Josiah though. Not Charles. Appreciate the links from other message thanks x

Just a bit of extra info that could be of interest  :)

Surrey Mirror 30 August 1929

Title - Unlucky Dog

Harry Josiah Searl of Golf Cottage was summoned for allowing his dog on the roadway without a collar bearing the owner's name and address. The dog had previously lost two collars and Searl decided to give the dog away. While he was finding a new owner the dog got loose and went into the road without a collar.

The summons was dismissed on payment of costs (4s)
