So, do you think Eliza was possibly, his first wife?  and then her met Charlotte? OR his mother?

Eliza was Harry's paternal grandmother. Charlotte was Harry's mother.

Absolutely what I meant was Charles wife. Not Harry's :) I can't believe how much information you have dug up for us. It's very appreciated from our side xx

You are very welcome.  :)

With regard to Harry's Medal Card I'm not an expert on military history but it would appear that he was awarded the Mercantile Marine Medal – awarded to those who served at sea for at least six months, and on at least one voyage through a danger zone. His Service number - 426309. You could post the image on the WW1 forum where there are experts who may be able to glean more information. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/world-war-one/

Hi I am one of Harry Josiah Searl's Granddaughters.  Yes he was a professional golfer and in those days there was no money in sport.  He was the Club golfer and green keeper at Epsom Golf Club, hence the family lived in Golf Cottage.  Harry and Ada had 9 children, only 3 are still alive.  JJen you must be my cousin.  In later life Harry lived in Lancing with his 2nd wife Doreen.  I met him shortly before he died.  After Ada died he had little to do with his children.  Sadly, Doreen registered his death incorrectly stating he was a Gardener and she spelt his name Searle!
