1901

2 Crown Cottages Crowthorne
Charles Searl  38 Gen labourer bn Sandhurst
Charlotte 33 bn Sandhurst
Annie 11 bn Sandhurst
Alice 9 bn Clapham London
Charles 7 bn Sandhurst
Arthur 6 bn Sandh.
Edith 5 bn S
Alfred 2 bn S
Harry 10 mths bn S

or maybe not?
Marriage Oct/Nov/Dec 1890 Easthampstead Charles Searl and Charlotte Elizabeth Parker.  Not Richardson.  Either she was a widow or I am looking at wrong family.

I think she must have been a widow, as the other children from this family come up as mmn Richardson too.

I'm not entirely sure what all that above means? His name was Harry Josiah though. Not Charles. Appreciate the links from other message thanks x

Liz posted the above 1901 census showing Harry (age 10m) with his parents Charles and Charlotte.

It would appear that Harry's mother Charlotte was previously married to George Parker, she then went on to marry Charles Searl.

Hope I'm reading your query correctly.

Was Harry a professional golfer as there are references to him in The London Gazette?

Just a bit of extra info that could be of interest  :)

Surrey Mirror 30 August 1929

Title - Unlucky Dog

Harry Josiah Searl of Golf Cottage was summoned for allowing his dog on the roadway without a collar bearing the owner's name and address. The dog had previously lost two collars and Searl decided to give the dog away. While he was finding a new owner the dog got loose and went into the road without a collar.

The summons was dismissed on payment of costs (4s)

ok, i see what she means!! its so confusing but looks right to me!!! The reason this guy is so important is because he is the father of my nan and she told me he left home at 15 years old to go to sea.  He fell out with his parents and siblings and never regained a relationship, so my nan has no idea who her G.parents are or aunts and uncles.  id really like to find out what i can. appreciate anything and everything you are finding :) making me smile thank you all

JJ

yes, he held the world record for sinking the longest putt from the 17th hole.  He managed to replicate it again in front of a reporter from the local paper.
