Deaths as Reported in the Inverness Journal & Northern Advertiser
« on: Sunday 18 February 18 11:02 GMT (UK) »
Compiled by Mr Stuart Farrell the Scottish Genealogy Society has published a continuation (Volume 6) of previous publications entitled ‘Deaths as Reported in the Inverness Journal and Northern Advertiser’. This volume with over 80 pages, covers the years 1829-1833. As mentioned previously, prior to 1 January 1855, when Civil Registration was introduced into Scotland, records of death were part of the local church parish records. As these have not survived well for Inverness (likewise for a number of other local parishes), entries in newspapers were widely used to give intimations of death, and do give relevant biographical information, for those persons who died locally and especially for those persons dying further away, particularly abroad. This volume costs £5.00 plus P&P and is available from our website: https://www.scotsgenealogy.com/Shop.aspx.
