Surely if the death certificate says he was found dead in the street then he didn’t die in a mining accident?

Perhaps the cause of death is not stated because it was unascertainable.  He may have shown no signs of ill health.  Sadly young people can die suddenly from causes such as cardiac arrhythmia etc.

My 4xG grandfather's death cert (1855) states 'found dead'. I was lucky enough to find a snippet in a local newspaper on the inquest. He was found in a local harbour so drowned, I am surprised that the certificate, completed by the coroner over a month later, wasn't more specific regarding the cause. Maybe he didn't refer to his case notes
