Johnston St, Belfast 1901 census - which Townland?
« on: Sunday 18 February 18 19:00 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find a Cochrane family in the 1901 census.
Father: Thomas James Cochrane born 1878
Mother: Annie Elizabeth Cochrane born c1878
Child: William, born 1899

From their son's birth cert 06 October 1899, address was 2 Johnston St, informant (presumably a midwife) lived at 32 Sackville St which I assume wasn't too far away but for all I know not necessarily in the same townland. Registration District was Belfast Urban 5

Their next child was born in September 1901 and their address then was the same, same informant also living at the same address and the Reg District was the same, so its reasonable to assume they were there in 1901 for the census

1899 directory lists Johnston St as being 'off Wilson St', if that helps.

By 1911 they are living at Cavour St in Shankhill parish

I am failing miserably at finding these people in 1901 using a name search.

Having already discovered  (thanks to help on the Wicklow Board) that a census Form A for another family was missed from the filming and therefore not in the name search database BUT the name I was looking for 'was' on the formB1, I am hoping to find which townland Johnston St was in so I can trawl through the Form B1s to see if they get a mention.

If anyone can give me a clue I'd be grateful.

Thank you

Boo

Just put the Street name in, and Antrim, then Search either 1901 or 1911 etc

but I don't know what county they were born!!  Can't select Religion as I don't know, but you can fill in boxes accordingly!

There is a John's Street and. Johnstons Court South, so perhaps there should be a North as well, but they are not there.

Thank you for taking the time to look, but as you say it just isn't there - and yet they do say they lived there according to the childrens' birth certificates !

Thanks for looking, I 'have' tried all this before asking for help, but thought I may be missing something.

Looks like they just aren't there :-(

What with the oddity in the Wicklow 1901 census and now this one, I am starting to wonder if it may be better to try for retrospective adoption to a more easily found family ! :-)
