Samuel George Fluke
« on: Monday 19 February 18 06:55 GMT (UK) »
I have come to a block.  Can't seem to find the birth date and/or baptism of Samuel George Fluke. It should be around 1866 as he was married to Isabella Stone in 1892 at the age of 26 years.  I am also looking for his military records.  thank you

Are his parents George and Rebecca Fluke?  This family are on 1871 census in Trowbridge- RG10/1919/40/28 , If not, what was his father's name on the marriage cert?

If registered, he should be in the Trowbridge RD* but nothing showing. Maybe he wasn't registered.

* birthplace given as Trowbridge on all the censuses

Trowbridge came under the registration district of Melksham - his birth appears to have been registered June quarter 1865 but surname mistranscribed as 'Flude' on original GRO index but going on to the birth index on their own site it is correctly shown as Fluke mmn Taylor.

On the 1861 census, Rebecca is listed as being born Hilperton circa 1828. There is this baptism:

Hilperton
3 August 1828
Rebecca, daughter of John Taylor(mason) and Rebecca

Given that George was a stone mason/builder on the censuses, it could be that they met through her father's work.

Misread the RD info on Genuki,  Annette - my inlaws were Trowbridge and I knew it had changed at some point ::)
