Did a marriage take place.
« on: Monday 19 February 18 14:13 GMT (UK) »
I can`t find an actual marriage  entry for this couple  and for the rest of his life he says he is unmarried.  Would there be something in the Parish register to record that it had not taken place.

The banns copy is on Ancestry.  Often banns have marriage dates alongside but this has no date against any of the entries on the page

Even though the banns were called it does not mean the marriage took place, there could have been an objection raised.

What did Mary Ann Sands give as marital status in subsequent censuses? Have you found if she married after 1872?

Forgive me, BUT.  If the Banns were read on the appropriate dates, and there is no marriage entry after that date, NOR an entry in the GRO Registers, then the marriage did not take place (in England or Wales) - for whatever reason.    :)  "Cold feet" on the part of one or both parties, or whatever reason.  :-\

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
If you don't ask the question, you won't get an answer.

Because there are details on the banns how do we know who she was, apart from her name. no age, no father or his occupation ,  no place of birth ?
