Victorian Manuscript cookbooks?
« on: Monday 19 February 18 15:14 GMT (UK) »
How common are these? I just found one at a car boot, owned/written by the lady of a biggish (5 servants) house, dated around 1860.

Is this mega rare, and deserves to be in a museum, rare-ish, or dirt common?

I'm trying to decide what to do with it. My options are currently

* donate to museum (if rare)
* from on eBay (if fairly rare)
* keep (if common)

I have seen them in records offices often donated by the 'big house', also seen them in Manor homes now many now open to the public. My great aunt was a cook all her life and I remember seeing her recipe book which was always out in her kitchen when I was a child...no idea where that went but I would have loved to have it. My mother has my grandmothers and maybe one day I will own it..... but I have never seen one for sale.

What a treasure to find at a car boot sale!
