Pearson bapt Westward
« on: Monday 19 February 18 18:42 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find the parents of James Pearson b 1816 Westward. There are three of the same name born Wigton on Ancestry. Throughout the census records he has stated Westward as his birthplace. I'm assuming I need to see what the actual parish record says to see if an abode his mentioned. Can anyone help.

Hi and Welcome!

Is it the James that married Charlotte Huntington?  Just thinking there maybe some info on the marriage entry.

Yes it's the same James. I have the marriage, but unless there is further information on the original record then I'm still no wiser. I think a trip to Carlisle Record Office might be the only answer.

Checked the likely baptism records for James Pearson at Wigton

24th Jan 1816 - address given as Wigton, father is a grocer
12th May 1816 Wigton, father weaver
4th Dec 1815 - no father - address Longmoor

Marriage entry just says of this parish, witnesses are James Holmes and Thomas Pearson. Charlotte signed her name, James signed with a cross.

He may not have been baptised and this is a common name in Wigton. (I’m also doing research on Pearsons in Wigton area and Carlisle!!)

Thank you. The further info on the marriage is helpful too. The dates you give are the same as what I have, but without any info on the fathers. The grocer doesn't sound likely. James's early work was as a weaver.
