Explains why I can't find it!  I was looking in Ancestry and also Times digital. these are the ones I have access to.

Wonder if he left the country since I can't find a death for him.

Thanks

Or maybe he just changed his name?

There's a search result coming up for his name on Find My Past in British Armed Forces And Overseas Deaths And Burials, Yokohama, Japan, 1891-95

I'll have a look at this if I can access it at the library later today.

Would appreciate that.  Thank you.

I have just realised the time - so guess I shall sign off for tonight.

Thank you Matthew.  I really appreciate your help.

Wonder if his wife/widow knew this, or whether she just termed herself a widow after a certain period of time?  I think there is something in law that allows for that.

Guess my next port of call will be GRO to see if it is possible to get copies of documents.  I have only ever used them for events in this country.
