Christian Rink
« on: Monday 19 February 18 23:29 GMT (UK) »
Good Morning from New Zealand.

I am trying to find out whether a Christian Rink or de Rink was actually born in Bordeaux, France on 16 Jan 1871-72. All documents I have seen says he is French, except for his WW 1 file in Australia which states born Odessa, Russia.

Parents:  Anthony Rink (French) & Mary Dulome ( taken from marriage certificate 1919) or Margaret de Leon ( taken from Christian death certificate 1961 NZ), mother Rumanian.

He also states my parents left France when I was very young and we have resided in Odessa, Canada, England and Australia ( arrived 1898-99).
Taken from the Russian Anzacs   http://russiananzacs.net/Rink

This is the only piece of the puzzle not confirmed and would like to find out where he was actually from.

I have all the Australian and New Zealand information so do not need research.

Regards

I did not see any birth for him under Rink/De Rink or similar.
He could also have been born in a town near Boulogne.

Although it sounds like he could have used another name -
given that by the time he married in 1919 as "Rink" he was on maybe his third marriage at least, I wouldn't presume anything about the information given there in terms of accuracy

There are three registers for the births of Bordeaux (Gironde) in 1872

http://archives.bordeaux-metropole.fr/archive/resultats/etatcivil/n:43?Rech_actes=naissances&RECH_datescombo_exacte=1872&type=etatcivil

(DE) RINK doesn't sound like a local family name at all. Sounds like a Germanic name . Especially when associated to the given name Christian. Christian and Chrétien were popular first names in Alsace-Lorraine for example (I am not saying he was from there).

Written DERYN(C)K it's more Flamish.

The fact that his mother is Roumanian doesn't really fit in the story and also the Russians thought he was born in Odessa. His other known name is Christian Lawrence Smidt Rinkoff

Smidt, another German sounding name.

Born in Odessa of a French or a (Volga) German father and a Roumanian Mother ?

Can a word of what he says be trusted ? Was it more convenient to him to be French than German or Russian at that time ?

A few other places called Bordeaux in France

Bordeau, Yonne
Bordeaux Saint-Clair, Seine-Maritime
Bordeaux-en-Gâtinais, Loiret

In Orléans (Loiret), I find a marriage bann on March 20th 1870 for François Joseph RINCK, a native of Salingen (Hannover), son of the late François RINCK and the late Elisabeth KELLNER, and Elise Louise Sophie Aglaë BILLY, a native of Orléans.

The same in 1916

Immigration year 1903

His wife is Margaret LESH also from Russia.

and Anton RINK was born in Elsass, South Russia, to Dominik RINK and Magdalena KLEIN, according to

https://gw.geneanet.org/crocetti?lang=fr&iz=0&p=anton&n=rink

and coincidence among his siblings there is a boy named Christian listed

Elsass is in the area of Odessa

https://library.ndsu.edu/grhc/order/general/sacredheritage.html

"The Germans from Russia Heritage Collection is pleased to provide the book, A Sacred Heritage: Odessa & District. The history book consists of stories of Odessa and the people located near Regina, Saskatchewan.

The Odessa area was settled by many Black Sea Germans from South Russia with many families from the Catholic Kutschurgan, Beresan and Liebental villages while others came from the Volga German and Bessarabian villages.

The Family Histories section includes names such as: Adler, Badlinger, Ball, Baumgartner, Bohn, Fesser, Folk, Gerein, Getz, Glas, Hauck, Hoffart, Hoffman, Holzapel, Klein, Kopp, Moser, Reiss, Rink, Roth, Schaeffer, Schaaf, Schneider, Weichel, Zacher, Zerr and Ziegler. For some of these families, they first immigrated to the United States including the Dakotas and then moved to southern Saskatchewan."

Hello davidqueneherve.

Yes Christian left a lot unanswered questions on his background, his daughter born 1937  NZ is trying to discover his background as she never knew anything about him. We are going by any information found from Police records and newspapers.

1) 1st marriage in Australia he used the name Christopher Lawrence Schmidt
2) 2nd marriage in Australia he used the name Roman Loranz Smidt
3) 3rd marriage in Australia he used the name  Christian Rink
He left all the above ladies.
Never married in New Zealand, he was ladies man.

I noticed on family search under Dominik children their was a Lawrence and under Magadlena a Loranz.

Wondering if this family is related, we will be looking at Ancestry to see what we can find.
Its a shame that the book on the Russian families is not our Libraries in New Zealand.

Will go through all the webs sites that you have shown.
Thank you for all your help

With such a mysterious man, I think that the only solution is DNA.
