Uncle Robert, Aunty and Steve in New Zealand.

These two photos were found in an old family album which used to belong to my 2nd cousin 1 x removed Nellie Constance McCallum (nee Willcox) 1906-1947. We are trying to identify the three people as shown. The family lived in Christchurch, New Zealand so we presume the photos were taken in NZ.

Nellies parents were born about 1880 so presumably her 'Uncle' would have been born about the same time ??

One photo has handwritten title "Uncle Robert" and the other "Uncle, Aunty and Steve". The only Robert I've found so far in the family died at age 42 so clearly not the elderly gent in these photos.

I'm wondering if we can narrow down our search if someone can put a date on the clothes worn by younger man Steve, or perhaps identify his lapel badge. It looks a little like the New Zealand Returned Services Association badge but I could be wrong.

Sorry I was not understood. Assuming the photo is in your pocession.

Find someone with the ability to scan in the range of 300 dpi or above. Save to and transport on a memory stick or email between email addresses.

Quite common for newer scanners to be up to 1,200 dpi these days, but with the RC posting limit of 500Kb per image up lift, the area scanned has to be quite small. At 300 to 600 dpi scan of the area covered only by the badge, should give researchers something to work with, even if they have to photo edit with their enhansing tools. Beats me how they do it, but they are a very capable bunch, and produce excellent results, all for just a pat on their back, and the occasional choclate fish image.

I see the photo sent to me was taken with a mobile phone at 72dpi resolution, so I'm sure a higher resolution scan might reveal more. Don't know why I didn't think of that!

I'll see if that can be arranged.

We are now narrowing down the possibilities and think the photo was probably taken early 1920's.

I'm trying to get more details on a Stephen Vowless who was wounded 1916. I have some details already from Army Casualty Lists.

If a Reuben VOWLESS who went to school 1880's at Cambridge NZ fits in somewhere, I might be able to find a lady I once helped to look up the name. She resently retired up North but I could look into finding her.
