Helps please - various names and dates
« on: Tuesday 20 February 18 17:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello!
I have found out I'm part scottish on my mothers, mothers, side and not the purebred geordie I thought I was lol ;D.
The other thing is its one of the most common names researched! Wilson.
My gt Grandfather was called Joseph "Dyer" Wilson born 04/04/1875 govan , lanarkshire
death Dec/1936 age 61
I have gone further back than him to James Wilson the first. born 1715.
I have looked to see if I can find a link to the either clan gunn or clan innes but cant seem to join the dots! any help in connecting these dots would be appreciated
And also for my mother who would like to know what Albert Victor Surtees 1888 - 1952( her paternal grandfather) did for a living.
I'm sure if I have posted incorrectly some kind moderator will help  post in the correct place. also hope your site may have an expert on clans
Thanks in advance
Mandy :)

That would sound very likely.

Have you read this piece on Clan Gunn  ?

Very few Wilsons were of Clan Gunn - especially the lowland ones.  Believe me - one of my main lines is Wilson.

Sorry, Mandy. I got called away. Welcome  :)

Over the years I think I've gone through all the Wilsons in lowland Scotland. It's not the easiest name to search for! Mine were mainly in the Dumfries and Galloway area.

Where was your James Wilson (the first) from?

Hi Gadget!
James Wislon 2nd was born in Lanarkshire so I would say that is where James the 1st is from
Its seems the 3nd James Wilson 1789 - 1882 was married to nobility Elizabeth Guthrie daughter of Lord John Guthrie.
