Finding an Irish Marriage HUSTON/EDMUNDSTON
« on: Saturday 06 August 05 00:11 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to trace the marriage of an Edward HUSTON born c.1843 L'pool. His wife's name was Mary Jane and was born in Ireland c.1847. I'm only working from English censuses at the moment so I don't know her maiden name. However, according to family legend it *should* be Edmundston.

I have searched and searched the English BMD indexes but have found nothing, so I wonder if they actually got married in *Ireland*. I expect them to be married c.1864/1865.

How do I go about finding them? Are the Irish BMD indexes online like the English and Welsh ones?

Any help very gratefully received.

Sam

Hi,

If they were married post 1864, they should be registered and in the indexes. These are not on line unfortunately. they are in the Dublin GRO or on film at your local family history centre.

Regards

Kate

Hi,

thanks for your help. Am I right in thinking that civil registration started in 1845 for protestant marriages?

Best Wishes,
Sam
