Deciphering an address
« on: Thursday 22 February 18 06:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi I’m hoping that someone can help me decipher the address at the attachment.

It’s my gt gt grandfathers and locating him will help finding him on the 1871 census.

Thanks in advance

David

1871 Census:  Monmouthshire, Bedwellty, Tredegar, District 8.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Perhaps Pond Row no longer exists, but I could find people living on it in the 1911 census.

There is an old book on Google that talks about the development of streets in Tredegar, naming Pond Row along with Charles St., Temple St., and George St.  If I understood it correctly, these streets formed a square.  Maybe some of those streets still exist for a reference point.  I may very well have misunderstood the "square" reference though.  Far too late for me to be up and reading old books!

Here is the very long link.... lower part of page 45, you might have to scroll a wee bit down.

Thanks to BumbleB's post with the info for the 1871 census, I could find the residents for Pond Row, and there is no Margaret Lee, or any Lee, on it.  They must have moved by the census date.
You may have to trawl through all the districts to find them.  :-\
