Matthew and Jane TOONE of Cottesmore (death 1719)
« on: Thursday 22 February 18 14:32 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the marriage record and births to this couple who lived in Cottesmore, Rutland. All I have so far is the death record of Jane Toon who died 19th April 1719 in Cottesmore and the entry states - "Jane wife of Matthew Toon buried "

I know of John and Matthew living in Cottesmore who I presume to be their sons and I presume were born in the late 1600s but I can't find their births.

Has anyone else come across this Jane and Matthew?
Does anyone else know of when the Toons first arrived in Rutland?  (Perhaps from Leicestershire - Ashby de la Zouch?)

Best wishes
Amanda Stone (mother = Toon)

Thank you - Yes I have those records. I have also a John Tombs born in 1708 to John and Mary who I am certain is the same couple as those above.

I have also found two births in Whissendine to Matthew and Jane:  Jane born in 1710 and Matthew in 1714. I am wondering if this is the same couple as the one in Cottesmore. I am finding it hard to make sense.

So there's:
Jane and Matthew Toon - she dies in April 1719
Matthew and Mary Spencer of Teigh marry in February 1719 no children Mary dies in 1720 (he goes on to marry Elizabeth Adcock and have children).
John Tombs (Toon of Barrow) marries Mary Ilson and they have children from 1708.

I would love to know whether these people are related and how. I believe that John of Barrow is my great + grandfather.

Yes I see  19 APR 1719 JANE TOON W/O MATTHEW  and   2 NOV 1720 MARY TOON W/O MATTHEW COTTESMORE ........ seem like Matthew is a well used family name and continues to be used down the family

Yes the names Matthew and Jane repeat.

I suppose I am hoping that someone here has solved the mystery!
