I was wondering if anybody might have any knowledge or images of Shovel House?

I have looked on Google, but this is all I can seem to find about it.

Bit of info here:

Shovel House, also known as Gatcombe House and Shovel Hill, was built probably c. 1820. (fn. 82) It is a large double-pile brick villa with a fivebayed front and central porch, with a lower one-bayed wing, probably original, on the east and a symmetrical bay on the west added after 1841. (fn. 83) Further rooms were added later in the 19th century and the interior retains many original fittings and good contemporary plasterwork.

Most likely know as Gatcombe House because ii was occupied by the Gatcombe family.

Taunton Courier, and Western Advertiser 03 January 1838
Christmas Benefactions

Mrs Gatcome of Shovel House, North Petherton gave away a quantity of peas to the surrounding poor.
The above lady can be found on the 1841 as Anna Gatcombe b. 1772. She died in 1847, her will can be found online.

If you have access to newspapers there are numerous articles relating to Shovel House.

My Nan lives along the private road leading up to the house and last year, I waked up to the house with her, although I don't remember too much. I think it had recently been bought and was having some work done to it. I can ask my Nan, if you would like, to see if she knows any information about the house?

It is a 9 bedroom house with 17 acres of land and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. However, the original house was burnt down and rebuilt during the Georgian period. On the private road, leading up to the house there is Shovel Cottage, which was the Groom's cottage - next to the stables, and Shovel Lodge, which was the original lodge house. Both Shovel Lodge and Shovel Cottage are thatched.

Is there anything in particular you would like to know? Is there any particular reason you're interested?

There are a few results on the online catalogue for the Somerset Heritage Centre, if you can make it there:

Many kind thanks for the information. My interest is in the Lippiatt family who once lived there.
