Got the death entry and marriage.  On emeraldancestors.com, for Stang, Clonduff parish there are 2 records for McIlduff.  So, I have to assume when John gave his name, people thought it was Meikle Duff, since he could not write according to his marriage certificate.

Thanks for your help with this Gadget.

Tom

Not got anything to add, just to say I'm researching McIlduffs, not come across Abraham but have alot of info on other McIlduffs.  Never searched this spelling of the surname, so gives me something else to look for  ;D

I traced his wife and step-son to Girvan, Ayrshire, in 1891.  Her surname is DUFF, aged 60, married, and living in Wreck Road.  By 1901, step-son (William Gordon, b 1864 at Stranraer) is at Kilmarnock.

Still cannot trace John.

According to his marriage certificate in 1875, his father is Abraham, occupation farmer, and mother Bridget Docherty (deceased)
