Thank you for all of the information.

In the 1851 Census George is listed as married, but not living with his wife. Perhaps he was referring to his unofficial 'wife' Emily Batchelor, and not Ann Buckland at all.

I'm beginning to think that I have the wrong George Boxall marrying Ann Buckland in London in 1849. If it is him, he led a very complicated life.

The father of the George who married Jane Buckland was Edward Boxall (deceased)

So who are you actually following - a George Boxall whom you thought had a son William Boxall and was married to Jane
or
William Batchelor, the illegitimate son of Emily Batchelor who subsequently married a George Boxall in 1855?
