1889 diary John 23
« on: Friday 23 February 18 11:55 GMT (UK) »
As I transcribed these lines it was clearly John 23.14 & ante to me. However the Gospel of St John ends with Chapter 21!

Have I messed up or did the writer get it wrong?
If it is the writer I should consult a bible scholar but I suggest it should have been John 21:14; 'This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.' (King James).

"He preached this morning from John 23.14 & ante"
"It being Whit Sunday; he got on very well at first when explaining that tho

Christmas was not certainly exactly date of Christs birth which might have been
in Sept.We may be pretty sure that this time was Pentecost."

Thanks for any help.

Or possibly John 14:23

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Thanks for the flip ShaunJ. I like that thinking but I don't see how that introduces Pentacost / Whitsun. So we agree about the 23.14 & ante characters in the script?

On the contrary: the verse ShaunJ quoted comes directly from the Gospel reading which was appointed in the Book of Common Prayer for Whit Sunday  :D

Thanks JenB that is splendid.  I now see why ShaunB is on the button.
As you can see I have so little understand of church liturgy. I am very grateful to you both. For once the handwriting was clear but I still didn't understand!

That will become footnote 174
