Jenkins family of Constantine and Stithians
« on: Friday 23 February 18 12:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

I'm looking for information on my Jenkins forebears from Cornwall. I know the Jenkins family lived in and around the Helston, Constantine and Stithians area, and I know they operated Ponjeravah mill at Constantine. It seems that they joined the Cornish diaspora and headed for Swansea in around 1840.

Does anyone else know anything about this family?
Squire/Squires (Hereford, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Lancashire, Glamorgan)
Jenkins (Cornwall, Glamorgan)
Meredith (Hereford, Radnorshire, Montmouthsire, Breckonshire, Glamorgan)
Evans (Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire)
Harris (Carmarthenshire, Glamorgan)
Brazendale (Lancashire)

Yes, that's the family. It's the 'Cornish years' I'm interested in. For example, did they own the mill at Ponjeravah, or rent?

I do, but thanks very much for responding! The earliest member of the family I have is, I believe, John Jenkin (b. 1684). I believe he married Jane Martin, but I am not sure and have no info for her.

the mill appears to have been leased along with a plot of land. You can search the holdings of the record office, put Jenkin into 'any text' and Constantine into 'title'

http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/DServe/searchpage.htm

and there's a couple of references to the lease from the 1820s.
Cornwall: Allen, Bevan, Bosisto, Carnpezzack, Donithorn, Huddy, James, Retallack, Russell, Vincent, Yeoman
Cards: Thomas (Llanbadarn Fawr)
Glam: Bowler, Cram, Galloway, James, Thomas, Watkins
Lincs: Coupland, Cram
Mon: Cram, Gwyn, John, Philpot, Smart, Watkins
Pembs: Edwards (St. Dogmael's)
Yorks: Airey, Bowler, Elliott, Hare, Hewitt, Kellett, Kemp, Stephenson, Tebb

Thanks! I didn't know I could do that! Most links I follow seem to end up at a certain company beginning with 'A' :)

Thanks to all those who have offered help :)
