I am trying to find a photograph of Robert George Nash Service no.82762. Born Camberwell 1887
A friend told me every soldier before he went into action had a official photograph taken with his family.
Does anyone know if these are kept somewhere, so than can be accessed?
He was killed in the 2nd Battle of the Somme.

It would not have been a photo taken by the government.
It would have been a private family arrangement

You can try http://www.ww1photos.com/OnlineSearch.html although I don't know what is on there.
All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

PaulineJ is right of course. Nothing official but many men did have their photo's taken after attestation.
As he died there may be a photo of him in the local paper. If you can find it.
