Thanks BB for your help.  It has been a wall-demolishing day.  I must go and get some food...

Nifty, a clever idea but I am convinced on "Request to His Ship, Cured" as it is occasionally show in full.

I notice that the column on the right, "Amount of slops and other necessaries received" is never used.  I wonder exactly what it was for.  Perhaps the 'cess' in Necessary is a clue?  I searched for the phrase and the top hit was advice on completing tax returns...

Number two was "Probabilistic Approaches for Geotechnical Site Characterization".  What?!?!

Number 3, (possibly nearer the mark!) was a 'Soil survey'

I think the Internet searching needs to improve.

I've been looking for these records on Ancestry, (I have an Ancestor, Charles Hamilton, who might have been there).

Could anyone Post a Link please?

Romilly.

The column relates to discharge. They would have been discharged from the hospital ship with ‘slops’ (basic Naval clothing) and ‘necessities’ (e.g. soap), but it seems these details were not actually recorded here. The situation would have been similar to a poor-law institution, where those being discharged might be given a few pence and half a loaf of bread, just to get them started again in the outside world.

Many Thanks Bookbox, - much appreciated.  From me as well.  I'll know where to come for more nauticalia info.  I've got  one asncestor who went up and down the east cpoast, and another, a Ship's Master who sailed the High Seas, to Rangoon, Shanghai and Australia.

I've searched Ship's Logbooks at Kew, Martin. But they're not digitalised, and so have to be searched in person.
