Have you got the parents names ?  Were there any other siblings relatives in the USA or Canada ?

Paul, for an idea of their crossing, see R.L.Stevenson's,  "An Amateur Emigrant!" his story of sailing from the Clyde to New York around that time. Available online.

Skoosh.

Please could you confirm whether the name is Waterston or Waterson - you have both in your post.
I haven't been able to find him under either name on a passenger list .

This appears to be the William & "Waterston" family in question.

Hope this gives others some background.

Also.... the 2nd reply in that thread has this: 1880, not 1889

"There is also an immigration record for a William Waterston, age 40, departing Glasgow on the vessel Bolivia for New York, arriving there on 21 September 1880"

Assuming this the correct William in question.

This appears to be the immigration record for William on the SS Bolivia in 1880.

He appears to be married with four children.

Reply 1 - the other thread gave a William Watterson in Blantyre in 1871 as a boarder but with no family showing.

"William Watterson (sic) subsequently appears in the 1871 Scotland Census age 29, born Blantyre, Lanarkshire, occupation joiner, boarder in the Bryden household at at 26 Annfield St, High Church, Glasgow"
