QUEEN ALEXANDRA IMPERIAL MILITARY NURSING SERVICE
« on: Sunday 25 February 18 11:05 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Back on Rootschat after a couple of years !
Looking in to QAIMNS for my 96 year old mum.
She wrote a description of her experiences after joining up and being sent to India in 1943.
Her notes cover being kitted out in Oxford, going to Liverpool and via Glasgow on the ORONTES.
All the way to Bombay.Subsequently finished up nursing Chindits in a jungle clearing, because there was such fierce fighting at Kohima where they had planned to be.Eventually had to be sent back down the line because she became so sick with malaria etc.
Just very interested to hear of anyone else having sourced more information of this part of WW2 and the nurses in particular. She has an amazing story and I'd love to find out more background.
Apparently it is often referred to as The Forgotten War.
Thank you very much.
David

Hi David....you are welcome. I'm sure the "World War Two Project" online would love to hear your mum's story so that others may learn from her experiences. I can't post a link as I am on the iPad.
Yes, I'm an East Yorkshire Lass  ;D

Hi again,
Yes when I've got it more organised it would be good to lodge it with the Project.
Thanks for the tip.
Big step forward last night with information on the actual convoy she was on.
It makes for amazing reading.....evading U-Boats just the start !
From Leeds myself...in Australia now.
Bye,
David
