Locating Death record
« on: Sunday 25 February 18 21:13 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone give me any pointers to locating the birth/death record of a child with most details unknown. I know that my GParents Arthur Hart and his Wife Margaret ms Gillan had a child who died young. They lived in the  Partick area of Glasgow.. I do not know the sex nor date of birth. The Family is on the 1901 census and then again on  the 1911 census. The child is not on the 1901 census, however on  the 1911 census it states that 9 children were born alive and only 8 are living. A member of my Family confirms that this could be true and that the child she thought was born around 1908 - 1910  but not 100% sure.
I have tried various hits on Scotlandspeople but they returned negative results

You just have to keep going until you have eliminated all possibles.
Better to search for young deaths rather than the possible births

Hi,

I see from looking at Scotlands People that Arthur and Margaret (indexed as Gillen) married in Partick in 1891.  Were they in Partick in both 1901 and 1911?

Have you tracked down the births of all eight of their other children?  If they are all fairly evenly spaced, is there a longer gap between two of them?  This could perhaps indicate that a child was born and died in the interval.

Looking at the index on Scotlands People for Harts who died under the age of 10 in Partick between 1891 and 1911 gives seven records, 5 boys (Martin, Henry, Henry George and 2 x James) and 2 girls, (Mary Phillips and Annie).  Have you looked at and discounted any of these?  The fact that there are two Henrys and two James *might* mean that the first child of those names died - although one would need to check the parents names on the entries to be sure.

Best wishes
