Walsh family from Procter Terrace, Tong Street, Bradford.
« on: Monday 26 February 18 11:03 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have a link to this family? They originated in  Wakefield. It appears they had a Fish and Chip shop at 12 Procter Terrace, Tong Street, Bradford.
I am looking at Charles William Walsh. On 1901 census he had a daughter living with him and his wife. Her name was Florrie Walsh. On 1911 census she still lives with the family but was described as niece.
This has confused me? Florrie would have been my husband Kevin Cranston's Grandmother.

Welcome to rootschat

The GRO birth index has this record which looks like your Florrie

WALSH, FLORRIE       -
1893  June Quarter in LEEDS  Volume 09B  Page 514

The dash after her name suggests she is possibly illegitimate as it would normally show her mothers maiden surname there

Hello
Charles William Walsh married Emily Beech at Wath on Dearne 13.6.1886.
Charles William 21 miner Wath s of John dec shoemaker
Emily Beech 20 Wath d of James miner
wit Thomas Beech and Eliza Dean
Because they had no children they seem to have a niece with them on all the censuses.
Grandfather is John Walsh and we need a daughter og his who is Florrie's mother.

Unfortunately because John died young the family aren't together in 1881
1881 Refreshment House Prospect Yard Wakefield
Charles Walsh 62 clogger employing 2 men born Leeds
Mary 49 wife Wakefield
Ada granddaughter 17 Wakefield
Charles W 15
John T 13
Fanny Cooper niece 18 Servant Brighouse
Ann Whiteley boarder 32 bar maid Wakefield

1871 is better in Teall St Wakefield
John Walsh 29 clogger and shoe maker Wakefield
Ann 29
Ada 7
Charles 5
John 3
Frances 1
Elizabeth 0

Mother is a Miss Ashton and they had Ada Sep qtr 1863,Charles William Sep 1865,John Thomas Sep 1867,Frances Annie June 1869,and Elizabeth Mar 1871.

It looks like John died Mar 1872 age 30 at Wakefield
The couple married 6.1.1862 at Thorne so they had no more children before Ada.

So Florrie's mother must be Ada,Frances Annie or Elizabeth.

1881 census the younger girls are at Alverthorpe
William Mist 29 married malster lab Fordingbridge Hampshire
Frances A Walsh 11 stepdaughter Wakefield
Elizabeth 10 stepdaughter   Wakefield

The girls married
Ada age 47 at Leeds St Phillip 14 Sep 1912 to Robert Annal
She is present in Leeds on the 1901 census but i can't find her 1891.
Frances - I can't find after 1881.

Lizzie Walsh d of John and Ann nee Ashton at Toronto 11.6.1892 to William Turp
She had arrived in Canada 1884.

So mom must be Ada or Frances .
