As Annie was from Sheffield there is a marriage in Mar 1886 for an Annie Elizabeth Webster with a groom missing - 2 grooms 3 brides.  Long shot.

1881 has 2 possibilities for Annie Webster bn 1866 ish Sheffield

One with parents Reuben and Ellen (he a naturalist) and the other with unknown parents as with granny Mary Webster on that census

Not that that really helps with anything!

Ellen Anne  Brown (Maiden Dodd) 1891-1954 is my grandmother she married Albert Thomas Brown in Surrey Q3 1912. A Family bible handed down has an inscription that reads "A present two J.D. from true lover F.M.P. May 12 1867" on the next page is "J. Dodd Died Nov 12 1905 aged 57 years". So that would put his birth in1848. Ellen Anne Dodd had a number of siblings Harry Dodd, Arther Dodd,Ellen Dodd, Caroline Dodd and Lena Dodd and possibly one other. The fact that Ellen Anne had the bible handed down from her mother suggests that she was probably the oldest sibling. Her 3 youngest siblings were sent to Canada when John Dodd at a relatively age died as her mother was unable to look after them. I am getting this info from my cousin who was closer to the family as I moved to Canada when I was 8. She is currently trying to find some family records which may or may not still exist.. So the person in Question that I am looking for is Ellen Anne Dodd's mother. I hope this clarifies things somewhat.

We're thinking her mother was Annie Webster born Sheffield.

True lover F M P could be a different person as the initials don't match Annie.

Just noticed the date - May 12 1867 - Annie was only a baby then so it can't have been from her.
And John only 19  :-\

I wonder if the inscription refers to a generation further back?

I think we have found plenty of family records! - censuses showing John and wife Ann, and Johns parents and siblings, the children (for whom you or cousin could get birth certs if you wished) , and then you have his death (and could get death cert if you wished) , and if you look at 1911 you'll see how the family split up. Fitting in with what you say about the younger ones then going to Canada.

What other records are you hoping for?

If this was given to John when he was 19, it could have been from anyone.  If no one then used it, indeed it seems John never used it in his lifetime to fill in his families births etc, then one would guess it was put away and forgotten.  Someone then found it and filled in his death and adopted it as a Family Bible to pass down. This must have been after Johns death and we know the family split up then. One would guess it was found in the loft or similar and one of the children took it as a momento.
I wouldn't attach any significance to F.M.P - she had long since disappeared before the Bible was used as a Family Bible.
