On Thomas Newton's record (1921) for his medals to be sent to his next of kin his mother's details are -

Mrs S Foot
54 Vicarage Street
Cerne Abbas
Dorchester
Dorset.

Unfortunately Thomas did not survive the war, he died of Para-thyphoid.

Very many thanks. Foot is quite a Dorset name and the George who died in 1923 was not my George Foot who also died in that year but at the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester and buried in Up Cerne near Cerne Abbas. I have a small orbit for him. I can't tell which newspaper it is from but it appear not to be on the National Newspaper Archive.

Very many thanks for your very helpful info.

J Jen. I missed the info you tracked down regarding Sarah's addresses. That does help me a lot and I will visit. A big thank you. Hopefully one of the Newton relatives will see these notes as I don't have a picture of Sarah. The Cerne Abbas history group is a active society and possibly a picture outside a house in Cerne Abbas will turn up-unlikely but I can hope.
Very many thanks for all your help,

Mark

I believe that I have now discovered Robert Newton married Sarah Long in 1875 in the Dorchester area. I would love to know more and track down the certificate. Many thanks for any help.

Hi Mark,

I've not found any details of Robert Newton's marriage in 1875 with the sources available to me. Perhaps it would be advisable to put a request on the Dorset board where someone may be able to help you.
