John Blackwill 1705-1791
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 10:43 GMT (UK) »
Hi. I'm trying to find the parents of John Blackwill born 1705? I have found a death for 1791 in Exton, that lists his age as 86. He was married to Margaret Carslake in Exton in 1730. I have found a Devon Freeholders register that lists a John Blackwill in Pilton. Also I came across a Devon and Exeter oath roll for 1723 listing a Thomas Blackwill. Could this be a connection to my John born 1705? There is no record of any Blackwill being in Exton before 1730. If anyone can help it would be appreciated, otherwise I have come to a dead end with this side of my family. Many thanks.

The only possibilities I can find are baptisms at St George, Dunster, Somerset.
There are two John Blackwill’s

29 Jul 1705 father John
28 Mar 1708 father Thomas, his son was buried on 13 Mar 1709.

Thomas BLACKWILL  married  Christian HANIFORD there  18 Nov 1705.

No clear marriage for John

Colin

Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Aren't there 2 Piltons?
One in Somerset and the other in Devon?

Genuki;
"PILTON is a pleasant village, on an eminence, about half a mile north of Barnstaple

Thank you. Any suggestions are greatly received. It would appear that a few of my Blackwill generations flitted about from North Devon to Somerset. I haven't lost hope just yet!
