Death of John Morris
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 16:31 GMT (UK) »
John Morris was born about 1850 in Montgomeryshire in Wales, the son of William. He married a woman in Bristol in November 1881 but he had a pub in Bootle called the Derby which is where he is for the 1881 Census. Sometime between 1881 and 1889, I’m assuming John died as his wife remarried in 1889 at Salford. I bought a certificate for a John Morris who died in 1882 at West Derby who I thought was him but it turns out I was wrong. But I can’t find a death for him anywhere  ???

Just in case it helps anyone:

1881 Census (The Derby) 318 Derby Road, Bootle upon Lineacre

John Morris, born 1850,Montgomery, Montgomeryshire, public house manager, single.

Hannah A Smith, born 1847, Manchester, housekeeper,single.

If he married someone in Bristol in November 1881, would we not be looking for a death there instead of West Derby? :-\

John and his wife were married by license and his address on the marriage certificate was given as Liverpool. So I’m assuming the couple went up to Bootle after they were married. If his wife remarried in Salford I think this means they stayed in Lancashire  :)

Who did he marry?
Was it Hannah Smith, his housekeeper in 1881?
Think I have misunderstood that  ::)

Sorry, it was Eliza Williams but she had remarried by 1891. I have her 1889 marriage in Salford and she is a widow

Does Eliza's marriage certificate in 1889 actually state that she is widowed.

I can’t see any likely deaths in Liverpool, West Derby, Bristol or Salford  :-\

There are some Lancashire deaths though to look at. Trouble is there are lots of men called John Morris.

Did she marry as Elizabeth Morris rather than Eliza?
