Strangely she married as Mary Morris and signs it as Mary too. But yes it states that she is a widow  :)

Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is if you can access any trade directories to see if he is mentioned at the pub. He seems to be a manager rather than owner so not sure how successful that would be.

Where was he born? There are a couple of Montgomeryshire born JMs with father William.

I have him in 1881 in a Liverpool City directory but I don’t know if there are any more directories of Liverpool until the 1890s

I don’t know, you would have to check with Liverpool Archives perhaps unless someone on here knows more.

Where was he born?

The only Census I have is the 1881 which only gives the county Montgomeryshire unfortunately  :-\

They may have separated and Eliza just remarried - that did happen.
Are you sure that Mary and Eliza are the same person?
What did she call herself after 1889?
Where did she come from?
Did John and Eliza have any children?
Sorry to just keep asking questions but the information is very scant   ;)

Eliza remained Eliza for the rest of her life, her 2nd marriage was the only time she used Mary. She was born in Thornbury in Gloucestershire and I don’t know if John and Eliza had any children. If they did, they aren’t with Eliza in later censuses

That might be why she married under a different name - that she was still married but who knows!
