Catherine Rooney and John Conroy
« on: Wednesday 28 February 18 17:59 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if someone can help find deaths or info on these two

Catherine Rooney and John Conroy. Me and a relative speculate this Catherine is our relative but there isnt much info on her.

Catherine was the daughter of Michael Rooney and Mary Mena (name varies alot!) she was born 1827-1830 in Ireland but not sure what part, we cant find a death certificate for her but my distant cousins done Ancestry dna and got in contact with a Conroy who he thinks hes descended from Catherine and her husband John, I cant find a marriage for the two but a son John was born in 1857 in Glasgow and then they disappear from census records in scotland so may have went to england or something and died there. Any help would be great

Perfect!!

Thats great thank you! so John died in 1870 or 1871 then. Is there anyway to find his death or catherine or maybe even any children since theres a gap between Mary and William or deaths of the 71 kids

They should be indexed at https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl  and https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp but I don't see John listed anywhere on either. I wonder if he died at sea, or could he have gone to Ireland and died there?
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Yes that Death Reg looks good and it appears to me that William 1870 was illegitimate;

1871 the Family is under Carrey on An.

Could this be William GRO Birth Reg:
CANEY, WILLIAM , mo Mothers mn***
GRO Reference: 1871  S Quarter in SUNDERLAND  Volume 10A  Page 620

Spelling is out but with a Irish accent could be misheard by register??

guess it would depend if they can be found in the 81 census with the same misspelled names.

Caney and Conroy are quite different in hearing would be difficult to get them mixed up

From memory a Tree has John marrying in Ireland. Did they go back there by 1881 Census?
