Grandad Davies

Greetings Nice People,
I need to ask what might be a stupid question.
I know my Grandad was born 30th November 1878 somewhere in Cardiganshire.
     His name was David Davies.
Anybody got any ideas as to how I can narrow down where to look so it doesn't
cost me fortune in birth certificates.
      Thank you - Keith
