Hi Suzy,

This website may be helpful........

http://medals.nzdf.mil.nz/category/g/g9.html

It also mentions:

2) Most of the New Zealand Honours Lists since 1952 are also available as text on Wikipedia.

I found out by pure chance that a branch of the family was honoured, was searching for something on line, and up popped their name :)

Cheers

If you can find local newspapers for that date, you may get more information there.

What a great little resource this has turned out to be.  Found another family member who got the British Empire Medal.
He did share the photos with me sometime ago, with him outside Buckingham Palace with his medal.
He never told me the full details of his bravery as a police officer for New Scotland Yard, this was all written in detail in the London Gazette...just amazing.

Thanks heaps

Hello.

From my research of people in NZ most of those being honoured with an OBE today [recent years] appear to be linked to the Services, and can be found towards the end of the New Years Honours list, and the June Queen's Birthday Honours lists.

About the year 2000 Honours the Government of the day droped the "Sir" and introduced the NZ Order of Merit system. Recommendations for potential recipients, and the awarding thereof, is a function of the Prime Minister's Department; Internal affairs.

Alan.

PS. Link to this years list.
