Hi Liz,
I haven't had much success in finding your Mary Butt/Batt etc  b.1799 and nothing shows in the Latton records other than a marriage in 1793 to a Wm.Tanner (from Stroud, Glos) By Licence.

I have found a Mary Butt bapt. 29-3-1795 in Bisley, Glos d/o John.

There is also a marriage of John Butt (out of Wilts) - Minchinhampton to a Sarah Herbert otp in Latton 28-1-1790 (By Licence) - not sure if the two are connected.

(Strangely there is a marriage licence dated 15-5-1712 for the same couple  listing  John Butt, yeo, of Brockeborough, Wilts to Sarah Herbert, of Tetbury, Glos - this is from the Wilts Marriage Licence Bonds CD from the WFHS).

Bit of a conflict of dates here - I'll mention this to the WFHS.

Alan

added; Yate, Glos - bapt.; 30-12-1799 Mary Butt d/o William Batt & Sarah
- Could this the person you're after?

Hi Alan.

Thank you for your input once again.

Although Mary was born in Latton as per the 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses, she lived in Gloucestershire all her married life having married in Stroud in 1820.  It is therefore possible that the baptism you found for Mary at Bisley could  be hers.   It is not an angle I have pursued so maybe that is what I should be doing.  It often takes another pair of eyes to throw a different slant on things.

Thanks again.

Hi Liz,

I think you can discount Mary Butt bapt. 1795 as sadly there is a burial for same named person aged 25 weeks on 14-7-1795 d/o John in  Bisley.

Thanks Alan,

That was on my list of jobs this afternoon, now that it is raining, (again).  If she wasn't so regular with her place of birth, I would consider checking the local to Frampton on Severn registers.  I think I will spread the search to the surrounding villages of Latton and see if the surname is mentioned.

Thanks again Alan for your support.

Hi Liz,

You can disregard the my comment;

I asked the WiltsFHS about this supposed anomaly but they have replied;

I can confirm that this has been correctly transcribed as being on 28th Jan 1790.
This marriage took place by Banns, not Licence.

There was another marriage of a John BUTT on 15th May 1712 (which matches exact date of Licence).
However, this took place at Long Newnton, and he was marrying a Jane HERFORT of Tetbury.
A bride with the right surname (almost), but a different first name.

It appears that these are two different marriages, although there is some mis-match or doubt about the bride’s name in 1712.

Just thought i'd let you know.
