Mary Rennie Longridge was born 15th March 1901 Creetown, illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Longridge, dressmaker.   A correction noted which says a Decree of Paternity against James Jamieson was made 10th May 1901.

So, Mary's birth found, her natural father named, the address where James Cochrane listed 1935 - 148 Crail Street - is the address given when Mary and the girls left England in 1948.

The birth certificate of one of the 3 girls should, as has already been suggested, confirm all this is correct.  Not that I have any doubts - when James Cochrane and Mary Rennie Longridge married 16th April 1926 James' address is '148 Crail Street'.

So, whilst the family names of Rennie and Beattie are indeed connected to Mary's family as the family story states it's strange that her actual surname of Longridge had become lost in the mists of time.
