      Can any one tell us what the S.O.  meant at that time?

I was just going to type the same answer Bookbox =  Luddendenfoot, Sorting Office, Yorkshire.

Luddenden Foot was in the West Riding of Yorkshire near Halifax.

("Riding" = a third of the county of Yorkshire)
