London City Directories 1736-1943 on Ancestry

19 million records apparently.

Reckon it must have been transcribed by OCR as I checked someone I've previously checked through the years on the films at LMA and had about a 1/3 success rate

So, potentially excellent resource but will need to be creative in the search criteria
Middlesex: KING,  MUMFORD, COOK, ROUSE, GOODALL, BROWN
Oxford: MATTHEWS, MOSS
Kent: SPOONER, THOMAS, KILLICK, COLLINS
Cambs: PRIGG, LEACH
Hants: FOSTER
Montgomery: BREES
Surrey: REEVE

Thanks for posting, that will certainly be useful for many people.

(It never ceases to amaze me that thay are still ading LMA datasets but can't finish off the parish register collection started in 2009 by sorting the errors and omissions  :-\ )

Because, in their business model, adding new datasets potentially attracts new subscribers, while correcting/updating old ones doesn’t.

I believe they are unlikely ever to repair these errors and omissions satisfactorily, because the evidence suggests that (a) they have a poor grasp of the administrative history and geography of the area, and (b) when they can’t identify or don’t understand the records (or how best to arrange and label them), they are reluctant to ask for guidance, even when they are working onsite at LMA with easy access to dozens of archivists who could advise.

I've had conversations with them and they won't necessarily update/correct them because they aren't bombarded with the same comments about the errors over and over so they don't 'think' there's a problem.

If you report one error in isolation, that's all it is and not a problem.
