I am seeking any info on  James Mitchell b 1769? who married an Alice Boys in 1788 and then Eleanor Collier nee Cole in 1797 - thank you

Hi I am currently looking through some family documents - possibly copies of entries in a Bible and also some stories - which appear to have been written by George Mitchell b 1813 watchmaker  who married a Mary Teresa Snowball. son of James Mitchell.  The documents appear to have been added to by the son of George Mitchell b 1846 d 1935 and who became a Priest.
The documents state that there was involvement by I think James Mitchell's father at Culloden.  The papers hint at a secret which he took to his deathbed never divulging this to his to his priest Father Kearney.

It's a bit confusing.
You have George Mitchell b. 1813 (assume Sunderland). His father was James & James' unnamed father was at Culloden.
George had an unnamed son in 1846 who became a Priest.
Is this correct?
Who had the secret?

Hi One set of documents is written by George Mitchell b 4.6.1813 d 1881 aged 67 in Sunderland.  His father was James Mitchell b 1769 d 1839. The second set of documents I have were written by his son George  who was ordained a priest at St Johns Catholic Cathedral on 9 September 1877. 

I believe that the person who took the secret to his deathbed was James father, Robert

Hi I am unsure but I will quote you part of the document written by George Mitchell b 4.6.1813.
"On my father's side I have gleaned nothing further than that they had been active partisans of the Stuarts.  They, with many others cast their fortunes on the fate of, and in the cause of Loyalty to the House of Stuart.  The affair to them was a shipwreck.  My great grandfather fled making his way to England having been captured at Carlisle he narrowly escaped being executed.  His informer was open to a bribe and and thereby saved himself making his way to Sunderland - for what reasons he selected this place I cannot say.  He took a house in Union Lane.  It was thus in 1745 my great grandfather settled down here."
The documents indicate that the family were, prior to the rebellion "of high prestige"

So a Jacobite making him Scottish probably. This may be the secret he was hiding as he would have been executed or transported to America.
Are you sure this was written by George b.1813 as Robert would be his Grandfather not GGrandfather.
It would make more sense if it was written by George's son.
Later:
James & Eleanor's first child was Jane in 1806. So making some assumptions they probably married a year or 2 earlier. This gives an approximate birth year of around 1780.
As the Jacobite Rebellion was 30+ years earlier either James' father was an older man when James was born or you need to go back a generation to Robert's father. This would then make the man mentioned George's GGrandfather as he states.
