Hertfordshire PC with a bushy moustache
« on: Friday 02 March 18 16:51 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for a bit of advice about what looks like an original photo ID, found a brass fob about the size of a half crown on one side Herts Constabulary on the other a picture of a Police Constable with a bushy moustache, no name evident, any ideas where I can go to identify the gentleman in question, family names that may be relevant include:

Ison, Thorpe, Boxall, Newell, Warren all of which originated in Essex / Middlesex area in particular Enfield..

Any advice appeciated

Hi,

The document you have put up only shows the photo side, not the back.  Is 'Herts Constabulary; all it says?

I have no knowledge on this, but it strikes me that it doesn't reflect what I would think an official police ID would look like.  I imagine that it would have crests/badges, the officer's number and some form of authorisation i.e. a signature of a senior officer.  A google image search shows a lot of historical warrant cards without a photograph

This link from the National Archives site indicates that Herts Archives and Local Studies may be the place to start:

Hi

Why do you think that the surnames you mention are relevant?

None of the geographical areas you name are in Herts

If you send them images of both sides of the fob (placed next to a ruler to aid measuring) they may know of other examples, or timescale.

Thanks Phillip I will use the link and see where it takes me, interestingly it was found in Los Angeles the lady found it along with other items but is not aware of any PCs in her family, all of the family from all sides originated from the Enfield area of London, but not that far away from Herts.. I will let you know if anything interesting transpires...
