James A Wass, trying to date photo.
« on: Sunday 04 March 18 11:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

This is the third time of trying to upload this photograph so I hope it hasn't repeated!

I'm trying to date the attached photo, I think it's of my great grandfather James Arthur Wass born in Ripon workhouse in 1886 but I'm not sure whether it's him or maybe his father who deserted the family before he was born. I have lots of older photos of my great grandfather but none as a child so nothing to say for sure if it is him. The photo would have been taken in Ripon I think, it is a postcard but there are no clues to say where it was taken or who took it.

It's the only one in my collection that 'looks' old, it may just be because it's dirty and has obviously been carried around a lot due to it's condition.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

He looks in his 20s or very very  early 30s to me. Could you put up a scan of one of the ones when he was older, please.

Hi, there isn't anything on the back of the photograph, it's just a typical postcard that has space for communication and 'address to be written here'.  There isn't any indication of where it was taken or by whom, no stamp or markings anywhere.

This is a later photo, pretty sure there's a similarity.

I would say it's highly probable that they are the same man.
