Date and age of Tom

Hi this photo was in the family photo album, the only clue we have to his identity is the name Tom, please could you give us a date of his clothes and how old would he have been.

My initial thought was 1950s but I've found some photos with similar  clothes in my books that are dated mid 1930s. Turn ups, short jacket and Oxford lace up shoes.  It was the jacket that made me think 1950s.

Difficult to give an age - 20s-30s

The trousers look a little on the wide side for the 50s but the jacket looks more post war than pre.

It's a puzzle as there are mixed fashions there. I wonder if he'd borrowed the jacket from a smaller person - it doesn't button up.
