Jean Storm 1780 - ?
« on: Sunday 04 March 18 19:07 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone out there help me to find a death date for my 3rd great grandmother Jean Storm.
She was baptised 14th March 1780 in Mortlach Banffshire parents John Storm & Elspet McMillan. She married James Bonnieman on 17th November 1807.
According to some family trees that I have seen she died 22nd February 1854 in Keith, Banffshire but I cannot find any proof of this fact & I don't fully trust other trees without proof.

You are absolutely right not to trust online trees.

If you go to LIBINDX http://libindx.moray.gov.uk/mainmenu.asp and search for 'Storm' with a death date of 1854, you will see a reference to MF C Ke 4 (181).
MF stands for 'microfilm'
C is the set of microfilms of burial ground records
Ke stands for Keith
4 means it is the 4th roll of film, which I think (I'd have to check) might be the scans of the old burial ground in Keith.
(181) means that the information is on Page 181.

FreeCEN shows a family in Land Street, Keith, consisting of James Bonnieman, 68 with wife Jane Bonnieman, 70, born Mortlach and daughter Jane, 34, born Keith.

Jane Bonnimon, daughter of James Bonnimon and Jean Storm, was born in Keith on 7 and baptised on 18 October 1814. She would have been 36, not 34, on the date of the 1851 census but an error of two years is not significant in a census at that time.

The family were in Land Street in 1841, but there is no record of James or his wife in the 1861 census. Daughter Jean is listed in 1861 keeping house for her unmarried brother James.

So I think it is reasonable to conclude that the Jane Storm who died on 22 February 1854 and is buried in Keith is indeed the wife of James Bonnieman.

Thank you very much both of you for these replies. They are extremely helpful.
I already knew about James Bonnieman in 1856 as I have his death certificate which showed he was a widower which narrowed down the search for his wife Jane/Jean Storm.
Hopefully the others will now show up on my tree as I continue my research.

Could this be the son of George Barron and Margaret Stewart, born in Keith on 13 December 1834?

Jan 6th 1844 Alexander Clark a child   1
Son of Robert Clark and Jean Smith, born in Keith on 30 June 1840?

No candidate in the IGI. However there is only one Peterkin family in Keith in 1851, George Peterkin and his wife Elizabeth, with children including Jane, aged 13, born in Rathven, and a gap where a child born in 1843/1844 would be in the family. A Jane Peterikan was baptised on 3 March 1838 in Rathven, parents George Peterkin and Elizabeth Bonnieman.

I've come across several Bonniemans in Rathven who were Roman Catholic.
