"A*c*y (or similar), as if it's forbidden"

Technically, it is forbidden, as if printed as Ancestry, that is advertising, which "can" be frowned upon here as we have seen in the last week with a certain set of posts from Sharon James from Medtrans. The censor police may come out and discommunicate the poster depending on their frame of mind at that time.

Just try putting Ancestry into the RC search facility and you'll see that it is quite acceptable.

:) I must admit I have been a culprit of the * censoring, but if copyright is involved if I use the initials of my usual site that begins with F and ends in P Rootschat prints the full name?!

Thanks for that JenB :)

I was asked by PM from someone on this site to refrain from writing Ancestry or FindMyPast in full for reasons explained in replies 8 and 9.

Well, I thought that you couldn't specify that you needed a lookup from a particular (specified) Source, as you would then be inviting breach of Ancestry/ FindMyPast/others  T&Cs

But simply writing Anc****y wouldn't get you off that hook!

Also, some people are just asterisking it when there is no request for a lookup - "I have my tree on Anc****y", for example.

I must admit that when I first started posting on R****Ch** I wrote A***y because everybody else seemed to be doing it - I had no idea why.

As to the BBC thing there were alleged to be only three trade names you could mention. Dave Allen told a joke about it: "I was reading the Times in my Rolls Royce while being driven to Harrods to buy some bottles of that black beer from Ireland."
