Help with a name on ship manifest
« on: Sunday 04 March 18 23:20 GMT (UK) »
Found one man I was looking for only to see he was with my next person of interest.
This if from Ellis Island records.
Denis Morrissey and James Donnelly on the Baltic on 29 June 1912.
Line 1 Denis and 2 James
The snip is who they are going to.
I can see James is going to his brother Thomas but who is Denis Morrissey going to?

Denis is a bit of a mystery he is with his aunt (my great grandmother) in 1901 and his uncle (Thomas' father) is his relation at home on the manifest but I haven't found his birth or a Morrissey/Donnelly marriage to see who his parents are.

Any idea on the name or the address so I can hopefully find it in the 1910 census would be great please.

The address looks like 179 Butler st Brooklyn - a directory shows Nicholas and Edward Morrissey at that address in 1912

Looking at the 5th line down, the writing in the first looks the same, "Sister", but the forename eludes me.
I could be wrong though.

Oh wonderful, I can see it now you say it, and the name looks like Nicholas.
Thank you so much, that is great.

Hi

Denis appears to be going to an Uncle at 179 Butler Street, Brooklyn.

Here's 179 Butler Street, Brooklyn in 1910 but there's no one named Morrissey or Donnelly living there.

Think I may have made a bit of progress but speculation at this stage.
I had three possible mother's for Denis Bridget, Anna and Julia.
In the 1892 Census in Brooklyn there is a Nicholas Morrissey and wife Julia with all the children born Ireland
I've found a birth, (need to check some more of them) Edward born to Nicholas Morrissey and Julia Donnolly in the right area of Kildare.
So it's possible, Denis isn't related to the Donnellys and his only connection through his aunt Julia.

There is a birth in prison in Dublin I was looking at where the father is Patrick Morrissey from Kildare.

I think the 'sister' looks like Mrs McMann or Mrs M Mann.  (and bro written later in larger letters.)

You have cut off her address.

It only says Nicholas is a 'rel'(ative) doesn't it?  so maybe not a brother or sister?

It's only the first two, Morrissey and Donnelly not the McMann's, but thank you.

Thank you to everyone.
