Two of the three children of William and Harriet are still with their grandparents (William and Mary HODGES) in 1861 but now at Welland.
William Hodges   59, carpenter, b Eastnor Herefordshire
Mary Hodges   59, laundry, b Castlemorton (as are William and Jane)
William Hawker   18, grandson -  In the column where it asks about disability, there is an entry for William which I think says "Cripple"
Jane Hawker   12, g'daughter

An on-line tree which cites references suggests that William died, aged 27 and FreeBMD has this death:
William Hawker, 27,
Registered: Upton-on-Severn, Vol 6c, p171 (Upton registration district included Castlemorton)
Jane marries William Williams in 1870 at Worcester (Henry is a witness)  and is still in Worcester with her husband in 1911.

In 1861 Henry is in the hamlet of Hanley Castle, employed as a servant for Richard and Ann HILL.

I can't see him with certainty in 1871.

This appears to be his marriage and the birth of his daughter (from FreeBMD)
Marriage, March qr 1873, registered Rochdale,
Henry HAWKER, Vol 8e, p40 and on the same page Emma HAMILTON

Birth  - seems to be two entries on the index
Dec qr 1870, registered Rochdale
Hawker    Edith Alice        Rochdale Vol 8e, p15
HAWKER    Edith Alice        Rochdale Vol 8e, p16

Thank you for your recent additions to my query.

I suppose Henry learnt his trade from his grandfather.

Wouldn't it be interesting if any of these people had kept diaries but maybe they couldn't read or write.

Can anyone suggest literature which I could read easily to try and understand more about this period in Australian history?

Electoral rolls:
Henry seems to move between two addresses over time.  There is no-one else with the same surname at his address.  Unfortunately there is no facility to search by address, only by surname so there may have been someone else at the address.

 Thank you for this too.

A positive and presumably happy outcome for the Hawker family over time.
