Hi Carol,

Hampsthwaite is just west of Harrogate, Hampsthwaite west to Pateley Bridge is about 6 or 7 miles, Pateley Bridge again west to Linton in Craven about 12 miles or so. Linton in Craven is 8 miles north of Skipton.

You should be able to find Harrogate, Pateley Bridge and Skipton easily on a map of Yorkshire.

Relatively speaking they are in the same area I would say.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Linton, Hampsthwaite, Thornthwaite and Pateley Bridge were all in the West Riding (until 1974)

You might also like to try http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YRY/Where

where there is a 'where is it in Yorkshire' section.

Also if you go to a place page from that link you can find click on 'Nearby Places' at the top.

Or if, when on a place page, you scroll down to the subheading 'Gazetteers' you will see 'Ask for a calculation of the distance from (place) to another place' which is very helpful when trying to see if two places are near each other.

There is also a wealth of other information on there too under each place page :-)

Hope this helps
