Marriage Licences
« on: Wednesday 07 March 18 13:28 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know if Marriage Licences for Gloucestershire are available anywhere online? I've tried Google Books but had no luck there.

Thanks

Matt

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Probably at Gloucestershire Archives, and probably not online?

For the Forest of Dean Family History website - if you are not already a Member, you have to register.

More often than not, there are two records for each marriage - One is the Bond and one is the Licence - and sometimes the surnames/place of residence are spelt different.  Not sure if this is connected to the KEEN family of Minety - but here is an example  - and best to use the SOUNDEX on surname  : for Example we have Emanuel KEEN aged 22, 18 April 1719 - residence: MURTY

(Emanuall KEEN baptised 28 July 1696, Minety, Wiltshire, parents: Thomas & Frances)

Witness 1: Thomas Arnold and Innholder of the City of Gloucester

Event type: Marriage Bond

and then the Licence:  same day, but more information

Record ID: 40837
Entry No: 0
Year : 1741

Thanks for all that useful info. Sadly Emmauall isn't part of my Keene research but hopefully I can find other family members on here.
